Federal Period Card Table

The Federal Period Card Table was produced in many forms from the late 18th to the mid 19th centuries. Usually these pieces were the focal point in the living areas of colonial homes. The reason for that was that card games were the largest form of entertainment, with books being expensive and few in number.

With the card table being such an important entertainment piece, it was generally the most well appointed item in the home. Typically, inlays were used with multiple edge banding to decorate the piece and add interest. This table has these attributes as well.

The top of this table folds in the center giving the table double-thickness when it is down. It may also be folded up against a wall where decorative items can be displayed on it. For these reasons, this table would rarely be used for a game of cards today.
